http://www.timesofearth.com/Worldnews/?NT=0&nid=17876 Buenos Aires, Argentina - A British politician has called for Argentina's ambassador to the UK to be summoned to the foreign ministry after Buenos Aires ordered all ships heading to the Falkland Islands through its waters to seek permission from Argentina first.

The call is the latest step in an escalating dispute between the two nations, who fought a brief war over the islands in 1982, over oil and gas drilling in south Atlantic.
Andrew Rosindell, the secretary of the parliamentary all-party group on the Falklands, called Islas Malvinas by the Argentines, said Buenos Aires should be told not to meddle in the affairs of the islands.

"I hope the foreign secretary [David Miliband] will call the Argentine ambassador in and tell them this is unacceptable behaviour," Rosindell said.

Cristina Kirchner, the Argentine president, signed the decree on Tuesday, with a drilling rig from Scotland due to arrive in the islands and start drilling next week.

Britain's foreign ministry rejected Argentina's demand, maintaining Buenos Aires cannot control the territorial waters surrounding the Falklands.

"Regulations governing Argentine territorial waters are a matter for the Argentine authorities," the ministry said.

"This does not affect Falkland Islands territorial waters which are controlled by the island authorities."
However, Rosindell, a member of the opposition Conservative Party, whose leader and then premier, Margaret Thatcher, sent troops in to seize back the Falklands after the Argentinians invaded, called on the foreign ministry to take further action.

"It is 28 years since the Falklands War and it has been made clear to Argentina that they have no say over the Falkland Islands or their territorial waters and they should not try to interfere with them," he said.

"Any attempt by Argentina to claim any sort of rights of sovereignty over that region is something we should take very seriously.

"I don't think we should appease Buenos Aires, we found out what happens last time."

Several British oil companies plan to start exploration of the area with an offshore rig, and numerous areas have been licensed for development of oil and natural gas reserves.

Victorio Taccetti, Argentina's deputy foreign minister, said his country would take "adequate measures" to stop any oil and gas exploration off the islands.

He told Argentina's Millennium radio station that the British government "shouldn't be complacent, because they see that Argentina defends its rights - obviously by peaceful means, such as through bilateral and multilateral action in [international] bodies".

Britain and Argentina have disputed sovereignty over the islands since the early 19th century, and negotiations over their status dragged on until early 1982, when Argentina's military rulers opted to take the territory back by force.

The Argentines invaded on April 2, sparking a brief war in which some 650 Argentine troops, more than 250 British personnel and three islanders were killed.

Britain and Argentina re-established full diplomatic ties in 1990. Buenos Aires continues to claim the islands as its own, but has made a commitment not to use force to press its claim.

Do your bit, spread this message, this cannot be allowed to continue.

  • @cibernetico73

The spanish and argentines were the worst colonists in south america - and the UK and Royal Navy took the lead in aboloshing slavery.

But the issue is colonialism in 2012 and it is argentina trying to take over and colonise a territory against the wishes of it's population..

And Sean Penn is a crap actor - as a well as a knobhead

  • @sfentonas88 We sat back and did nothing?? Your knowledge of history is severely lacking. We invaded France in 1944 (D-Day- 6th June 1944), we fought the Germans in the Atlantic, the Italians in Africa and the Med and Japan in the Pacific. We were fighting all over the world. You fought too but to claim that the UK did nothing is pathetic, imbecellic and moronic!!!! The Falkland's are British. Please comment back for a run down on what the UK did in WWII (I got an A* at ALevel hist)

  • Argentina demands islands - Argentina doesnt get. Argentina invades islands - Argentina doesnt keep. Argentina demands we dont send Prince William - WE IGNORE THEM AND SEND HMS DAUNTLESS!!!

  • @sfentonas88

Zorba my friend can you claim 3m people lost when they were just hiding under their beds?

As to my fixation with money all I can say is if your country would have shown a similar fixation you wouldn't be in the mess you are in now.

Look at the olympic sites in Greece most of them are completely destroyed because you cannot afford to maintain them.

Look at your unemployment rate - 50%.

You may have found the one thing you are successful at - failure.

    God save The Queen!

  • @sfentonas88 show me evidence that you lost 3 million greeks? quick check on the interent but only source i can find is wikipedia, which says you lost 25000-35000 (military) and brittan lost 383000 (military). If you think brittan done nothing in ww2 then you are wildly missimformed.

  • For some reason a lot of foreign nationals envy the UK and a lot of this anti brits falklands has to do with jealousy i think. Also, maybe a lot of our politicians look too smug or something and annoys foreigners even more. Not really a good imagine. Argentina is the underdog... a lot of people like the underdog. Don't mean they are right though. I reckon that's the main reason why Sean Penn is supporting Argentina. Also Obama.. he thought the NHS was shit up until he did a bit of research.

  • @NemoFuitHic Greece the sick man blablabla....poor neighboor blablabla....And so?My little zionist friend, why you always think of money? You talk about spirit, you faggot Brits? We lost over 3 million Greeks in WWII,while you gays sitting, drinking tea and watching nazis bombing your faggot island of yours.Goodnight dickhead.Viva Las Malvinas....
