Sometimes it's best to get back to basics - laid back, in the pocket, swing.

Stepping away from the tutorial videos for a minute and going to a performance video, there is still a lot2learn from this one. Notice the call and response type phrasing during the solo, the heavy use of the blues scale, and the rhythmic interplay between the instruments that keeps this swinging.

Ray Porrello - Drums
Roger Friedman - Piano
Demetrius Steinmetz - Bass

Recorded June 14, 2009 - Cleveland, Ohio.
Special thanks to Kevin Kristofeld President of K2 Productions - http://www.myspace.com/walkerwhostirsnodust for providing remote recording equipment. Great work Kevin!

I will be uploading more of the videos from this session here: http://www.youtube.com/user/rayporrellotrio

  • @The11jazz Thanks for your comment.

  • The groove is to often over looked. Not all cats play this deep in it, but these guy's do!! I guess it's because you can't learn it, you're born with it. This is where I like to make it sit every time I sit down to play. Thank you God!! Life is good in the groove.
