Automation IG's utilized a large-capacity material handling robot to act as a tooling positioner in this unique combination spot/mig weld cell. A stationary servo spot gun integrated with the Fanuc robot controller welds components held in place by the end of arm tooling. The Fanuc handling robot then positions the part to a Motoman mig welding robot where final welds are performed. The finished part is placed onto an outgoing conveyor by the handling robot and the tool returned to the operator station. Robot as positioner technology from Automation IG allows combination of processes within a single cell and provides for automated part extraction without the need for dedicated handling hardware.
