I came near to 'taking out in the street with a drunken gent who said John Irwin's 'Hotel New hampshire' was a better book then 'Jitterbug Perfume'. I've read 'Hotel N.H.' and thought it was a great read, but Jitterbug Perfume can be read a half dozen times and still blow you away. It's simply a masterpiece.

A fun listen is 'Half Asleep in Frog Pajamma's' on audio tape. Read by the actor (name ?) who plays the Mayor on the TV Sitcom 'Sin City' - Hysterical
