According to the Washington Post, "Virginia's politicians struggled to balance car-tax relief against demands for public services."[5] When Gilmore left office in January 2002, the state's "rainy day fund," or revenue stabilization fund, contained $1 billion.
Go to wikipedia and google Jim Gilmore and Mark Warner and ou will see that the reason that people have suc a misguided opinion about Gilmore is because Warner trashed him as soon as he got in office.
Trust or not, he fixed Virginia after Gilmore screwed it up. On a side note: It's fine that people don't like Warner, but how can Gilmore even run against him?? Of all people! The Republican party could put up a better candidate than that. He screwed up VA, he screwed up the RNC ... what good has he done?? Just kinda funny to me.
Excuse me for my typo. I guess your a Gilmore fan.
Gilmore, from what I have seen is still using the same Republican campaign BS that worked in the 90's, but is as outdated as cassette tapes. I liked and voted for Allen, but he sided with Bush WAY to much on some issues which didn't help his popularity too much.
Regardless no one will be able to fill John Warner's shoes. He had brains, class, and was the last of his kind. He will be missed.
Debt not dept-Warner ran as a centrist and as a fiscally conservative Democrat. That is how Democrats win in Virginia and that is how Warner picked up votes in rural and suburban areas of the state. If he ran for President he would run to the left in the primaries to gain young, new, female, liberal, and black voters.
I usually don't vote Democrat, in fact I cannot stand Tim Kaine, but Warner was a damn good Governor. When he ran the Commonwealth of Virginia, it was voted as the best ran state in the U.S.
Gilmore on the other hand was a idiot that ran the state into dept.
I think he cheated on his wife and has women issues back in the day. I think he didn't want to put his kids through the b.s. that is associated with running for President and I think his wife wanted nothing to do with it. I think it was a combo of women problems, his wife didn't want it, he didn't want to put his kids through it. Now he is going to win a US Senate seat in a total complete walk
No, libel would be an outright accusation. Senateguy has only posited a theory, albeit one with little evidence.
