I am entirely aware of the involvement, but the USA kept the Shah in power. That was wrong and i can't think of many people calling that a good thing these days.

But after the revolution the Iranian people were left to their own and they allowed a medieval totalitarian dictatorship to step into place and make things argueably worse.

The US was wrong when it imposed the Shah but how does that justify the horrid Iranian regime?
