Johann Ludwig Bach (1677 - 1731):
DAS IST MEINE FREUDE
Johann Ludwig Bach was a composer and violinist. He was born in Thal. At the age of 22 he moved to Meiningen eventually being appointed cantor there, and later Kapellmeister. He wrote a large amount of music and regularly oversaw performances, both at Meiningen and neighbouring courts. He was a second cousin of Johann Sebastian Bach, who made copies of many of his cantatas and performed them at Leipzig.
Das ist meine Freude,
daß ich mich zu Gott halte,
und meine Zuversicht
setze auf den Herren.
Das ist meine Freude.

This CD is a good starter on Bach's musical influences, and you guys on youtube follow up well. The sound is huge for a 12-voice choir, and their German is excellent. I particularly want to perform this motet once, so thanks for the opportunity to sing along!

I am thoroughly enjoying these Bach Family pieces. I am getting such a sense of the family and their music. Your work and tireless efforts to share do not go unappreciated.

Thanks Very Much! That is/was fun! I must ask my friend in a Munich suburb to keep an eye out for jewels from this influential gentleman. I can hear some things Herr Bach adapted from this his good cousin; suspensions, playfulness, resolutions, phrasing, and probably more. J L is like a breath of fresh musical air. Thanks so much for sharing this!
