Sifu Chris Bouguyon demonstrates the Tai Chi for Arthritis 32 movement forms from Dr. Paul Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis Program. This is a gentle, modified Sun Style Tai Chi designed to help support strengthening, balance, core stability and mental focus in students with physical challenges such as arthritis. Because of the mind, body and spirit components of their training programs, Sifu Chris, founder of SimplyAware.com has also noted significant benefits in students with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's, Fibromyalgia, Psoriatic Arthritis and many other forms of dis-ease.

  • @vvanesse59 I agree the original Sun Style is not allways done slower. However competition usually appeals to the younger and faster person who can easily perform for instance the jumping double kick introduced as part of the modifications for competition. The reason I now use the VETCH sequences, based on Sun Lutang’s original sequence, is not because it should be done any slower but because it takes half the space of Dr Lam's sequence, and I can practice in my living room.

  • Well done Chris. The speed with which you are performing is as "fast" as Sun Lutang's daughter performs in her instructional dvd for the 97 form. Sun style as you may know was/is referred to "nimble step" and is routinely performed faster than Yang as you mentioned. Fast or slow as long as taiji principles are used all is good. Slower allows for more internalizing I suspect. My video response shows how I "added" a couple of movements to the TCA forms. Enjoy Vic in IL

  • Well done Chris, very smooth. Nothing wrong with fast Tai Chi for those that can do it. After all the movements for TCA routine are selected from the more athletic competition version of modified Sun Style.

I now prefer myself the VETCH modified Sun Style routines based on Sun Lutang's original Sun Style.

    Horses for courses

  • Very nice presentation Sifu Chris Bouguyon...smooth and well developed steps...thanks for posting!

  • how do i buy it...? im home need a regular dvd i can do everyday...this is a great start

  • I like this. This is what I hope to look like someday.

As I understand, Wu is the slowest form and Sun ("quick step taiji") is the fastest, with Yang and Chen in between. It's interesting to see the pace intended for Sun style.

  • This is a good performance! I have no problem with the speed, you should be able to vary the speed and still have a correct performance according to the principles. This performance is by a person who understands tai chi, and Momnotmrs's comment does not apply in this case, although agree that TCA is probably delivered by many health para-professionals who are not tai chi experts

  • rubbish !!

  • I'm actually taking a class in this through the Arthritis Foundation, and I truly believe this can't be taught correctly except by martial artists. My instructor has a background in dance, and she has NO idea of what the moves mean. Really, she tries, but I went online because the way she was performing the movements just didn't make sense.

  • You are correct, this is a quick version and not one I care for very much, personally. I was trying to show the pace Traditional Sun Style Tai Chi is typically performed. When I worked with Paul Lam, he knew right away my main style was Yang because I moved so slowly. We train and teach the forms much slower than this... Thank you for your feedback.
