Hope you did some kind of research as to what chemicals etc were used on those bags during manufacturing.
-
you can use disposable diapers instead of coffee filters because they help retain moisture in your bags /soil
-
epsom salt and powdered milk is your fertilizer?
-
why turn the bag inside out?
-
I'm using an old black Mary Kay tote bag just like that, LOL~

Hi Kristie. I really like your idea using the shopping bags, I have so many now and am always wondering what to do with them all. I was wondering how your plants actually went? I wondered if it would be a good idea to poke or drill some holes in the black plastic insert to allow for better drainage/ventilation? This is also a great idea for people in units or renting, as they would be very portable. I recently had to move and leave behind a flourishing vegie garden...grrrr! Welld one!

@donnalovespink More holes may help, my plants that I was more generous with soil did better, possibly because they held moisture better. It's hard to remember that 'potted' plants need to be watered more. I haven't found a way to get them to produce like my garden plants yet, I'll try more holes, maybe that's the key:-)

why not use a plastic bucket with holes in it?

I've seen that done and it seems to work great. I think I use less soil in the bag -and I'm cheap!
