A pole is put out over the harbour, is covered in shortening or lard. Money is placed at the end of the pole. Contestants take turns sliding barefoot to the end of the pole to collect the money. This is probably the most popular part of the July 1st festivities in Lockeport and was mentioned by Ellen Paige on Letterman.
