  • Why a spoiler? This is the start of the film and it's so well known as to have become a cliche mocked by the guys on Big Train (there's a clip also on Youtube somewhere)

  • Yes a great technicolor film - even the B&W bits!

  • Big difference between David Niven and yourself, apart from your sexuality,is that everyone liked and respected him, whereas evereyone thinks you are a sad twat.

    Honest,I'm not making it up!

  • cos it's the forties where not every kid had a swimming costume and it was quite acceptable then. Messing about with kids wasn't splashed across every newspaper in the land like it is today. Innocent times.

  • @metfan500 Having the young goatherd presented without clothing at that point in the clip leveraged the conventional European vision of heaven - complete with bare-bottomed innocent child angels - to string the protagonist along until the Mosquito roars overhead. Damned nice timing, that.

It's realistic, too. With WW2 cloth shortages in England, keeping growing kids in ANY kind of clothes was difficult. Who's going to spend ration points on bathing suits when skin fits perfectly well?

  • @Jacktwo my fucking ass they don't... have you ever taken a High School english class in Australia?

  • Fantastic surreal adventure that was light years ahead of its time. David Niven gives a tremendous performance as the brain damaged pilot.

  • Did we know..

David Niven-Lt Colonel British Special Forces David Niven, WW2 Veteran of Normandy. Member of 'Phantom Signals Unit' ...they crept around German lines like US Special Forces do, calling in enemy positions.

He was a real "rascal" and actually 'escaped' from British Army prior to ww2 and ended up in Hollywood. When WW2 broke out..he went back to fight for King and Country.

Mr. Niven was a real life STUD.

  • where can u get the full film? x
