  • I had a cup of Matcha at 1pm this afternoon. It gave me a nice lift through the rest of the day, but here I am at 3:30am wired on the caffeine. For me this has been just like a shot of espresso.

  • @CalifaJohn Hi there. In most cases, because of the high concentration of theanine, Matcha will not cause jitters or a wiry feeling. IN fact, Matcha is usually energizing and also relaxing for people. However, when someone tells me they get "wired" after Matcha it usually means that their liver is not clearing toxins quickly through phase 1 metabolic processing. In other words, it might be time for a liver detox which would help you break down caffeine much faster.

  • @JamesCWhittle I will agree that the energy from matcha is more clear than from coffee. I did not feel jittery. It was a nice energy through the day, but it kept me from sleeping. I was alert and energetic at 3:30am.

I keep regular track of my liver enzymes and they are all normal which means I don't have high levels of toxins as you suggest. I eat a very clean organic vegetarian diet and exercise regularly.

I am, however, a caffeine metabolizer of genetic type III which is the slowest.

  • @CalifaJohn Hi there, a few things to remember:

    1. Use Matcha in the morning if you are sensisitve to caffeine.

    2. The brand you use is important: sweeter Matchas have more theanine whcih moderates and is antagonistic to the caffeine in Matcha.

    3. I have seen people sensitive to caffeine and with no liver enzyme trouble process caffeine better after they do liver cleanses.

    Good luck,

    James
