@Caporalea1 but kimono means thing to wear though no japanese reffers to kimono with the word kimono we call them by their real appelation according to the type of garment. but thing is sure we will never classify a yukata in the category of furisode tomesode homongi tsukesage desho karaage bubu hiki etc just because yukata mean hot water and cloth basically a yukata is a bathrobe nothing more nothing less
@Caporalea1 ok first if you ever say to a japanese over 50 years old that a yukata is a form of kimono she will just laugh at you. now if you come and want to teach me about kimono without wondering how i know about it that's your choice, but though i respect your interest in my culture i have to tell you that my family has been making kimono for 8 generation and i have been studying the sewing techniques for about 17 years. you did your homework and read liza dalby's book.
@lukkha1 You do realize that a yukata is a form of Kimono. All yukata are kimono, but not all kimono are yukata, the same for a furisode. In fact the word "kimono" means "thing to wear" or more simply "clothes" Now it refers to Japanese wear, as opposed to western clothing. The only real difference is that a yukata will be made from cotton, or another light wight fabric, whereas kimono of other type would be traditionally made of thick lustrous silk (not always the case now)
this is pure bullshit ! that's pathetic. this is everything but real japanese cultur just cheap chinky exoticism for stupid gaijin ! that7s kind of an insult to the exquisite and refined japanese culture. that's not even a kimono. that's a cheap cotton yukata for summer. if people beleive this is a kimono that's sad for the craftsmen and women who have been procuding the finest silk gaments in the world for centuries .
