Boss Blitz Galaxy - Mission 1
Throwback Throwdown

Because the Mario series is long overdue for one (or something like that), Super Mario Galaxy 2 features a stage consisting of a series of previously defeated bosses, where the goal is to defeat them again, one right after another. Video gamers have created a term for this, called a "boss rush."

Of course, this being Super Mario, it can't be played straight. That's just too drab. Instead, the bosses are from the PREVIOUS Super Mario Galaxy. Those who haven't played the original might find a few surprises here; those who have can breate a sigh of relief that it's probably been so long that they took these guys on that it's become more nostalgic than a chore. The bosses you have to fight are in this order:
1. Dino Piranha - This plays exactly the same as when Mario fought him in the Good Egg Galaxy.
2. King Kaliente - This also plays exactly the same as when Mario fought him in the Good Egg Galaxy. This time, however, there's a Comet Medal at the bottom of the planet. I don't know if the Life Mushroom has always been there though.
3. Major Burrows - Mario fought him in the Gusty Garden Galaxy, and nothing has changed about the way he fights except thatthe Star Bunny he was chasing before is absent.
4. Bouldergeist - This is re-created extremely faithfully, right down to the Luma Shop on the floating pieces of walkway leading down to the arena. Nothing I can spot has changed.
5. Fiery Dino Piranha - Mario took out this guy in the Melty Molten Galaxy. Did he always spit fireballs? I don't remember him ever doing that before.

It's quite the gauntlet to finish this under Daredevil conditions. Fiery Dino Piranha gives me a lot of trouble, especially since it's near impossible to dodge the fireball he spits out as soon as he gets the chance after you hit him three times. I'll bet the designers figured it'd be too much too, even for World S. Mission 2 is not a Daredevil run, as I had thought it would be, but the same thing you see here under a 5-minute time limit.

  • @Duskool They're not going to put EVERY boss fight from the first game over to here. It would take too long.
