  • I hope the victor goes back to one designs. My own preference would be to go back to the 12s and greatly tighten the specs to make the boats essentially equal. In addition, no non-citizens aboard any country's entry. All this might renew interest for a disillusioned public. Many do not even know racing has started or where it is.

  • I agree with all that you said, but I do like these two multi's, they are juat amazing machines.

  • Great video. Too bad the AC33 website sucks and we have to revert to youtube to get any footage here in the US. And this probably won't be up for long...

  • The reason this was a Deed of Gift match was because Alinghi accepted a Challenger of Record that was bogus - it was from a Yacht Club that was in name only - they had never raced or held a regatta - two of the things that the Challenger of Record MUST have. Alinghi forced all this BS. I agree that multi-challenger series are the way it should be. I hope Larry Ellison restores the luster of this great sailing event and eliminates all the corporate BS that drove Dennis Conner out of it.

  • 12 meters was when sailing was americas cup

  • i like this one

  • @HarryMangurian I think you might be missing the point of The America's Cup. It's not a boat race. It's a boat DESIGN competition. The America won in 1851 because it was an advanced-design boat. Imagine The Apprentice meets Robot Wars (with a little sailing mixed in.) There are already a zillion one-design races that never get attention. Why add one more and think anyone's going to care? This races is supposed to be sorta like a technology expo.

  • @Ronclown

Fully agree on the nationality rule. Silly to allow otherwise. Countries don't sponsor boats.. they should have to supply the crews.

As to sponsorship money though, these new vessels are driven on sponsorship dollars.. so it stands to reason if BMW and Oracle are going to pony up cash and split engineering costs..their name should be on it. My bigger issue is that they allow sponsorship dollars at all. I'm torn. I love the engineering of the thing but it's out of reach of mortals.

  • Rather exciting though I am not a fan of cats or tris. And why is an American boat named after a German car company? Also, since we hae the cup in San Diego you race in, or around, the Pacific Ocean by San Diego. Not in Valencia or any other country. Bring back the monohull 12 meter boats. Bring back the thrill of the race. And, just race and froget the stupid red ( protest ) flags. All people on boat must be from that country -- no acceptions granted. Brig back the nationality rule.

  • i really hope kiwis win the one in 2014 im in oracle but i only wannna get out of this mess : ))))

  • @HarryMangurian It looks like its going to be a one design 72ft cat for the 34th AC.

And I agree with you about the nationality rules. everything has gone to hell since that rule changed.

  • Dear Mr Coutts, please dont mess the 34th edition up.. pleaaase

  • im from oracle right now and its alinghis fault that there were only two teams on this americas cup.

  • Well, in some classes there certainly is a world cup, for example the spectacular TP 52 class.

And the old Admiral's Cup kind of was an officious world cup...
