... probably from the early 80's.
They call it 'Mandingo Rock', electric but inspired
by the traditional sound. They won several times at the
'Biennales', National Music Festival.

Keïta, Seydou (1921- 2001), Malian photographer, born and active in Bamako. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he took up photography in 1949. He worked exclusively as a studio portraitist, chronicling Bamako's citizens over three decades. His skill at supplying his clients wit...h clothes, props, poses, and backdrops produced photographs with a dense, compelling individuality. And his oeuvre, of over 200, 000 photographs, depicts a founding stage in African modernization, as experienced in one thriving, expanding city. After a period photographing for the Mali government, Keïta gave up photography in 1977. His breakthrough in Europe in the early 1980s, followed by exhibitions worldwide, helped bring his work, and African photography generally, to wider critical and public attention.
