'...yr...' is both a deconstruction of Debussy's popular solo flute piece 'Syrinx' and the creation of a complex musical space. The original piece is cut in 77 fragments which are rearranged in a new time- line and scattered through an intricate architecture of sound transmitters (tubes, hoses, pumps, threads). These fragments are treated in an almost optical manner, exploring different grades of distortion and clarity in several categories: visible/invisible, near/far, audible/inaudible, elongated/compressed... I intended to create an environment in which these fragments, although almost completely emptied from their original meaning, still keep a potential sense of unity, as the pieces of an undone jigsaw.
A text by Leibniz's Monadology is used simultaneously both in a sound and a semantic level: And as the same town, looked at from various sides, appears quite different and becomes as it were numerous in aspects [perspectivement]; even so, as a result of the infinite number of
simple substances, it is as if there were so many different universes, which, nevertheless are nothing but aspects [perspectives] of a single universe, according to the special point of view of each Monad. Monadology, 57
