Barbara Bain's television series debut in 1959 as Karen Wells in Richard Diamond, Private Detective. Earlier in the episode, Diamond is seen in his pool flirting with two young women who were not actually interested in swimming. Here, he is immediately attracted to the independent and glamorous Karen Wells. Janssen passed away in 1980.

  • When does Barry Morse show up?? Only joking!

  • @trossk Lol I realize this reply is a bit late... but the answer is no. This is not the guy from the radio show, the radio show was done by Dick Powell.

  • why didnt they show mary tyler moores legs david was great gied too early

  • Howcome her face was never revealed on this show?

  • Easy! Mary Tyler Moore! She was using only her first and last name. She was fired after revealing that she was "Sam" (I've read her autobiography). You can easily tell by her unmistakeable voice.

  • And now, a pop quiz to end all pop quizzes.

Which television icon 'appeared' in this program? (Hint...she was using only two names at the time).

  • No, Dick Powell originally played "Richard Diamond" on radio from 1949 through '52. He also owned the series; when he told his wife June Allyson in early 1957 that he was thinking of casting David Janssen in a Four Star TV version of the program, she thought David was all wrong for the part. Powell knew "star quality", though- Janssen might not have matched Dick's wisecracking persona as "Diamond" on the radio, but he was tough, nevertheless.
