  • Personally, I think green screen was the way forwards if you were prepared to put in the work during post. Then you can have any background you like each day, and if you don't like one, you can easily change it.

I wonder if you put softbox covers over those lights if it would soften the shadows down a bit, and be kinder to your image. We'll have to see how you look on film.

But I love the idea of the studio. BTW, what Eos is that I'm saving up for one ATM.

  • @matbroomfield Thanks for your feedback! Yeah I originally had a green screen but I just feel like I need a physical background because it looks so fake when editing the backgrounds even if I did edit it perfectly. But it should look better once I get some background images and pictures and such. As for the lights, yeah I originally had covers but now they're far enough away that I don't need them. You can check out a little test video I made called "How To Fail" on my main channel HowToAndMore.

  • @matbroomfield I ran out of characters... I am using a Canon Rebel EOS T2i/550D. Excellent camera.

  • @BeauVlogs I'm about to buy a camera and was considering the 550 but it doesn't have an adjustable view screen, which is a pain for vlogging. How do you cope - isn't it a pain to line up when you can see the screen, or do you just have a permanent filming positon?

  • @matbroomfield Yeah it's a pain but I don't use it for vlogs. I just use a basic Flip UltraHD which sucks but it's workable. The flip also doesn't have a "flip" out screen but I just have a special filming position I guess that makes it work. Personally I don't think spending hundreds more for basically the same camera with a flip out screen is worth it. Plus, you can just buy a separate monitor attachment for the camera if you want.

  • Thanks dude, I'm making my home studio right now and you're giving me some ideas. Take care.

  • @NeledIthil Excellent! Be sure to post a video response so I can check out your setup.

  • @BeauVlogs Oh yeah - the HDMI connector - didn't think of that. You're right, that might be an option worth considering. Thanks for your insights Beau. :-)

  • Hey Beau, it's great that you you took the trouble to set up a proper studio - I have a white blind for that. TBH, I always preferred your out-and-about vlogs rather than the stationary stuff.

I gotta just warn you - orange is not agreat colour for a background - it's too close to your skin colour and it can make you look sickly - just look at the bit where you hold your hand up against the wall for an example.

  • Ya you will like not using a green screen, I stopped using it and now just using my computer screen as a green screen to do what I do. So ya can not wait to see what you make with the new setup.
