The only thing that I don't get is why he'd choose to take a friend with him that was into smuggling. That's stupid to do, should have gone seperated ways and meet there or something. But stil, very sad story.

Man, he should have just paid the bribe. Westerners need to realize that all their rights and privileges and ideas of fairness and justice end at the border of their own country, and out there in the third world, you play by their rules.
