....So even though its not a religious thing, its probably one of the most important thing in the history of mankind that represents the love of the Father too. The pole represents the Father, the ribbons represents his garment or thread or his love for, that which binds us to him, the children represents us. Its the flower of life. or the flow.
I hate to disappoint but it has nothing to do with religion.
Pple all over do it but they don't really know why... until now
The revelation is, this dance or play, represents (1) The movement of the stars in the galaxy, around the center, (2) The planets around the sun, (3) The moon around the earth and
(4) the movement of life around the earth.
we're all weaving this life. Hence the term, "WHAT TANGLED WEB WE WEAVE"
But really there is nothing negative about it. Its a teaching device.
@brkfstclub35 That's the problem kids are not told where their ancestors come from. The school curriculum in the UK esp. history tells you sod all about the Germanic ppls that settled here. It's Romans and Normans and Elizabethans very little is done about the Saxons,Franks, Jutes, and Anglians......
@tristanauspride I will not let go! At least Asatru is a recognised religion in the UK....I don't recall Wicca (another stolen name meaning wise in A-S) being recognised by the government.
I'm from Panama, and I have always wanted to know what does the maypole dance represents? It's curiosity, since we don't do stuff like this... What's the meaning of it? =)

We all have a lot to learn.

@gothicgrowler The pole represents the male phallus while the ribbons and wreathe represent the womb. You get the picture

@tristanauspride I don't see what Frey-Ing has to do with Beltane as Frey-Ing is a Saxon God..........
