  • These horses are hell of four legs as I understand it. You couldn't pay me to ride one! But they sure are graceful.

  • @RobbytheLion I don't know where you get this information from. The stallion I had and all the other Akhal Tekes I have ridden since then where particularly smooth gaited and easy to ride. Very intelligent and fast learning! You must have heard of an exception.

  • @equusSF I've just always heard they are very intelligent but also very high strung, hyper and often bad tempered. But then I've never handled one so my prejudices could be wrong.

  • @RobbytheLion Well - maybe it's worth a try to meet and handle one in person - where in US do you live? I might know an Akhal Teke in your neighborhood - or state ;-)

  • @equusSF Colorado. I knew a photographer who did alot of horse photography and his favorite horse was the Teke. He photographed some here but I don't recall where exactly. I would be interested to know if they are bred anywhere around here.

  • @RobbytheLion There is the Akhal Teke stallion Grom owned by Joy & Sandy Krienke 16381 Hwy 392 Greeley, CO 80631 Phone: (970) 567-6195 Email: skk10m @ hotmail.com and MV Patrickhan owned by: Jas Shearer-McMahon P.O. Box 114 Livermore, CO 80536 Phone: (970) 493-1773 Email: jaslivco @ aol.com Website: magicvalleyakhal-tekes.info and she has more than one Akhal-Teke - are you anywhere near either of them?

  • I am so happy to be able to ride one :)

  • High strung, hyper and bad tempered under control is exactly what you need in a war horse. Grandpas Akhal Teke stallion disobeyed him only once in an attack on a German position in WWI. It swerved away from the direction he guided it, there was a flash and he woke up hours later. His horse was gone. Grandpa said he didn't think the horse was killed. He said it was probably smart enough to find its way home.

  • These horse are TURKMEN horse from central asia!

  • Legendary "Red Hare"!

  • @equusSF I'm actually kindof in-between both those places. Wow I never would have guessed there were desert horses in Colorado! Thanks.
