Hey this is me interviewing my all-time-favorite-Japan-role-model. His name is Arudou Debito, he is a naturalized Japanese citizen who is a college professor all the way up in Hokkaido and also is civil rights activist. A couple days ago he was in Tokyo and we got together for a couple drinks and discussing how awesome we are ;)

@TkyoSam - Is Debit living in Canada now? I heard that he quit his teaching job in Hokkaido and moved to Canada.

@TkyoSam - I was at JALT here in Tokyo yesterday. Word is, he quit his job in Sapporo and has gone to Canada. I was surprised to hear that. If I've got bad info, I apologize, but those in the room seemed very sure of him quitting and leaving for Canada.

Arudo Debito is known to be a whiny troublemaker. I'm an American who's lived in Japan for 2 and a half years, and neither I or none of the other people I know who've lived there take this guy seriously.

Sorry to hear he's your "role model" TkyoSam, I had unsubscribe just for that :(

I think he lost a lot of credibility when he divorced his wife like two years after he got his citizenship... somehow when you look like just another fat bearded American who can't adjust to Japanese life the calls for equality and stuff don't carry the same 'weight' (haha)
