Youtube and Copyright

Fletcher and I look at the increasingly complex issue of Youtube and copyright laws. Recently a video of mine was taken down for copyright reasons. I had filmed some fireworks from my balcony after Australian Idol. I was not told exactly what copyright laws I had broken and I am still unclear. For the record Adshare was not used on the video so I could not have made any money from the video or monetised it.

You should be ok but yes they have banned accounts permanently. It is a difficult and complex issue.

So they can't permanent ban you for this?Because I was worried that youtube can permanent ban you because of this.

All they will do sometimes is just to remove it and give you a warning?

What if you get to many warnings,let me say 3 warning in 1 year,what happens then?

Sometimes they'll remove it. Usually they'll also give you a warning.

Can youtube permanent ban you for putting a song into your vid or can they just remove your vid in the worst case?

I totally agree. Something needs to be done and we all need to speak out. The situation as it stands is ridiculous :)

But seriously - I guess it strikes me as obvious that the personal right to document whatever is occurring outside your own window should trump any corporate claim. If there are draconian laws in place that say otherwise.. then perhaps we're just a bunch of polite boiling frogs.

It is hard to know what laws are bullshit if you are unsure of what the laws are in the first place lol. Those who say nothing are the ones that lose rights. Start making your own videos and have a voice instead of hiding behind a blank profile :)
