PARENTAL ADVISORY - EXPLICIT LYRICS
Apologies for probably blind-siding my current subscribers with concert footage that has nothing to do with video games, nerd /geek culture, or rantings...
...though I have been asked what kind of music I enjoy, so this will provide a taste.
Besides guys, c'mon:
Cute girl. Free concert.
-------------------------
Recently I decided that I'd like to start going to more concerts and spending less on movies at the theaters--in hopes of becoming more familiar with local and national talent...and becoming more socially adept instead of using the net as a crutch to meet new people.
I don't know if you guys have realized this yet but--the modern popular radio music industry is absolutely and incontrovertibly shite...and it's only getting worse. Now, more than ever, we have the opportunity to explore and find bands and artists we like, rather than keeping our collective scope limited to what crap is hocked at us by some heartless record company and mainstream radio stations that are paid to loop the same 20 mindless, auto-tuned, lyrically-retarded garbage tracks performed by by people completely void of talent.
Kate Miller-Heidke was a truly rare, funny, eccentric gem that I feel extremely fortunate to have stumbled across as the opening act for Ben Folds just a couple of nights ago. An opera-trained hilarious Australian, Kate's been singing almost as long as she's been alive--and it shows. Her live shows with her husband Keir Nuttall are phenomenally fun...and her sweet spitfire of an on-stage personality seems to cause every one in the room to fall in love with her.
My pal Dave and I liked her so much at the Ben Folds concert that we decided we HAD to go see her again--less than 24 hours later. But hey, they're from Australia so I'm thinking it'll be a while before they're back.
I brought a camera along, got her permission to film and that's what you're watching right now. I have approximately 5 songs from the show I'll be uploading, including an awesome cover of Britney Spear's "Toxic" and a hilarious song about an ex wanting to be facebook friends.
XPN's World Cafe venue was also fantastic and the low-light atmosphere made for what felt like a truly intimate connection with the musicians. I can't wait to come back--perhaps with a date.
"Are You F***ing Kidding Me?"
They say every one should have their heart broken, at least once.
That that is how you grow emotionally.
Well, I have been misused by many many many men,
But nothing can compare to how you treated me.
At times it really felt as though
the pain was here to stay.
And though it's many years ago,
I feel it to this day.
And now you wanna be my friend on facebook... Are you fuckin kidding me?
All the memories are flooding back to me now.
All the ways you stole the light from my eyes.
I travelled so far just to get away from you!
Till this mornings friend request surprise.
At times it really felt as though
I'd never smile again.
You narcissistic ass hole,
oh you nasty nasty man.
And now you wanna be my friend on facebook... Are you fucking kidding?
I dont wanna know what kind of cocktail you are
or which member of the beatles or which 1950's movie star.
I dont give a toss if you're a ninja or a pirate,
I'd suspect you'd be a pirate but i dont wanna verify it
And I dont give a shit what your stripper name is
Or if your Kitty had a litter..
Look, just follow me on twitter.
I dont care about your family tree
and i certainly dont want you poking me
...again.
And now you wanna be my friend on facebook...
oh you fucking fucking fuck.
Click, ignore....

@joejoeafrojoe What did you think of the album? I thought it was a bit too overproduced and radio friendly. I definitely liked her in concert a lot better. As my friend Dave and I agreed, the in-concert stuff was fantastic, whereas her album isn't something I'd be exactly "proud" to listen to with a bunch of my guy friends as it's just a bit too girly.

@AkewsticRockR I agree, especially about the overproduced part. At some points it sounded like notes were reached with the help of a computer, yet she proved at the concert that her voice needs no such help! Some of the subtlety of her voice were lost through that too. As for too girly, most of my friends are girls, so no problem there :)

@joejoeafrojoe Kate was actually so cool that when I told her I wanted to buy her older albums but not pay 30 bucks for importing she said "You could always use BitTorrent" and Keir said "Yeah, the label gets all the money for that stuff anyway."
Her "Live at the Hi-fi" album is awesome, my favorite part being when they're playing "Words" and bust into Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the name" at the end. Kate even does the funky hi-pitched guitar in her opera voice.
