Borough President Jim Molinaro and Congressman Michael McMahon recently met at the St. George Ferry Terminal with officials from the Ferry and Police Department to discuss passenger access to the terminal during overnight security sweeps, which take place between 1 and 4:30am.
Previously, passengers arriving during those hours would have to wait out in the cold until 15 minutes before their ferry departed. The Borough President and Congressman found this to be unacceptable and negotiated a solution with the New York City Department of Transportation. They met with the Ferrys Chief Operating Officer, Jim DeSimone, to discuss the new policy, which keeps all entrances to the terminal open throughout the night, allowing passengers to wait in the heated foyer.
The Borough President said that while public safety is a top priority, at the same time passenger comfort can be accommodated.
