I upload this right after a request for uploading a video about Yukaghir. Well, I work mostly on Chukotko-Kamchatkan people, but Yukaghir are Uralic people in Eastern Siberia.

This video is about the reindeer people (Orochon or Oroqen, Koryak, Yukaghir, Nivkh or Gilyak) who inhabit the northern side of Amur River, Outer Manchuria.

"These photographs and information are from the excellent book by Ivar Lissner, translated into English by J. Maxwell Brownjohn called 'Man, God and Magic', published in 1961. In 1939, at the beginning of the Second World War, he wanted to enter the uncharted area of the Amur Bend, in Manchuria, at that time controlled by the Japanese." (from the original website)

Note: These information were true in the past. However, some of the cultural custom practices may not be practiced in the modern days (eg. Oroqen burial on tree stumps).

  • Wonderful video 5*****

Do you know the Turkic Dolgan and some Yakuts Sakha also uses reindeers?

  • Yes. Due to the 3'40'' of "Athair Ar Neamh" song, I couldn't add some more for Yakuts. Too bad. But if people ask Yakuts, I will suggest that HistoryGirl08's and ExUmira2's Yakutian videos could be more informative and attractive than I do. ;)

  • Thank you very much for this nice video

  • Thank you. I hope I can post more vids about Turks and Siberian. ;)

  • They almost have the same traits as us.... hmmm...

  • @Forkboy193: Interestingly enough in finnish language the word for reindeer is "Poro" and in old finnic the word for bears and men were the same "otso". So if you combine these words you get the word "Porotso" as in "Orochon", could this be just a coincidence?

  • @Unknown1stScreamo Lots of people in Russia, especially the East coast are Asian. Lots of non-"Russian" ethnic people also live in and have homelands in what's currently Russia.
