2/5 Saturday Club 23.8.65.
Together from 1965 to 1969, the Small Faces were the embodiment of Sixties London: four plucky, diminutive rascals from the East End, as wide as the Thames and as deep as the kitchen sink, rich in humour, impudence and high-octane energy. Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Ian 'Mac' McLagan and Kenney Jones were pop's Bash Street Kids: naughty boys climbing the school railings and thumbing their noses at the establishment. They helped invent what we now think of as the Swinging Sixties

  • "steve marriot.......legend">>>>!!

  • I saw the Small Faces on the Who,s Magic Bus Tour, including Joe Cocker and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown all for a £1....if only I could do it again.....its still ingrained in my memory

  • @2009framat I guess she didn't really try to put too much of an emphasis on it.

  • @Khultan

I remember that I heard them on radio on the John Peel show in the early 80's and then I saw a 3-minute clip on german-french tv in the 90's. The next thing I heard that she died. I did not even know that she was a german.

  • @2009framat Yeah, I know you mean, around 2005, wandering in Virgin Megastore in downtown San Francisco, I, being an open minded person that I am, was struck by a cd cover of theirs (never heard of them) and bought it, it was a picture of 4 of them with photo effects, yes they started out very raw, so I bought the John Peels session and was absolutely knocked out by them and then I bought their Cut album and I tell you the first track, I believe I kept repeating the first 15 seconds mesmerized

  • @Khultan

I only knew the Slits&have to admid I they did not impress me&I almost forgot how they sounded like.I liked the original jamaicaan reggae & rock steady much more

  • @2009framat I don't know what generation you are but noting the country you identified, do you know of the passing of Ari-up last October? Talented, outspoken and very beautiful person.

  • @2009framat Yeah, back in 1977, even then that name Small Faces would have drawn a blank look on my 9 year old face, actually, I listened to some of Rod Stewarts music, probably the hits in the mid70s, and had no idea of who the band actually were, Imo, rock n roll music was already in it's decline with the likes of Rod Stewart but that's going off topic.

  • @Khultan

The Small Face were a popular group in the 60's in W-Germany&had at least one very big hit with Sha-lalalali.They played the before mentioned festival not as headliner-that was proably Manfred Mann's Earthband.I can't remember the other bands.A schoolmate had 2 old Decca SFaces LPs from his Uncle which we never listen to because we did not know the band.I remember the concert so well because2days before Elvis had died &the SFaces set was almost all Elvis song(read it in the papers)
