Medical Insurance Specialist

As a Medical Insurance Specialist, you are a key member of the medical team. You're responsible for the entire claims reimbursement process — from information gathering to billing, payments, and resolution of any claim disputes.

Working with each patient, you assess their insurance coverage and determine what costs are covered. Using your knowledge about the health plans available in the area and the costs associated with each procedure, you ensure that all charges are accurate and correctly submitted to insurance companies. You review payment records and maintain accurate information in the patient's medical records to justify any claims submitted.

Your studies at Baker will enable you to develop a working knowledge of the entire medical insurance process, from billing rules and policies to successfully resolving claim disputes. In addition to your classwork, where you'll have plenty of one-on-one interaction, you'll gain real-world experience in a medical facility. You'll be ready to start working the day you graduate.
