In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

- Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)Canadian Army

  • RIP Henry "Harry" Kane unit unknown US Army buried in Flanders Field.

  • Nov. 11, 2011...................I listen to this every Veteran's Day...and even days in-between. It brings tears each time. My granddaughter's school choir sang it and I could not stop the tears then.........and now as I listen.

  • @Napoleon501ste Very true.. it was an egotistical war.. Childish behaviour from Governments. Yet humanity will never change.. We all feel obliged to seek our own justice and show of force when wronged.. It's in our nature as men.

  • They sacrificed their lives, their futures ... lost loves and families of children's children never born to know the freedom they died for ... we will remember ...

  • who is the arranger of this music? where can it be found? Thanks

  • @Napoleon501ste Although my knowledge of WW! is limited I'm aware that extreme European nationalism and mishandling the events before the war by their leaders was the prime cause of that horrible war. They were the cause of sending their innocent men and women to be the fuel of that conflagration. Therefore their near and dear ones are right in commemorating their memory in all generations, so should the world at large.

  • Wrong pictures.

  • MUCH RESPECT
