Piano transcription of one of the most hair-raising songs of love, magic, seduction and death. Performed live by Georgi Slavchev in Diana Saal in Neuwied Castle on the Rhein river (Villa Musica). Erlkoenig is a poem by Goethe.

  • Wow!!! Magnificent!!!

I prefer this interpretation than Evgeny Kissin.

It truly gives the singing character in this piece and greatly matches the poem by Goethe. This version is one of my favourite sitting alongside Yuja Wang.

Note that some parts must not be too aggressive and should be softer

  • @123mazeppa Hey, thanks! :) Sorry about the automatic adjustment of this consumer camera. It is really a bootleg recording. Happy to hear that Yuja's is your fav too. She is a sweet girl and awesome pianist. I love Mazeppa by the way. What a piece...

  • Any pianist would be happy if you tell them they play this piece too fast!!! I am not sure you would be slowing down riding in the middle of the night with the forest king/ghost chasing you to take your life away!

  • I desagree: it's not to fast! This is te tempo of the song. Some parts are could be more calm, but the basic tempo is right.

  • erlking is by far one of the most tiring songs to ever play. In my opinion.

  • @lavamaster530 yes i think so

  • @tailwhoop Even more tiring than the Circus Galop on piano?

  • gorgeous, thank you.

  • Just watched him last night, he's the best!

  • I am happy to hear a pianist who plays so well and appreciates the excitement and spirit of piano music--despite any arguments his interpretation may inspire.

  • My mother played this all the time when I was young. I use it all the time, when I can, in art things... my favorite.

  • yes, because exciting is the total opposite to tiring..

  • (suite) Goethe, pardonne moi... Mais tu n'as demandé à personne de mettre ton superbe poème en musique, n'est-ce pas ? Je l'ai appris en cours d'allemand il y a une cinquantaine d'années avec enthousiame et émotion.
