Since Romania joined the European Union in 2007, an estimated 10 percent of its people have left, seeking better fortunes elsewhere in the 27-nation bloc. Some regions have been all but abandoned by the able-bodied, leaving the elderly and children behind. Duration: 02:04

  • If you noticed the old lady says that she has no pension. Off course she hasn't, because she never worked. Romania doesn't have only gypsys, they are a minority.Next time you make an article at least get your facts straight, and mention that you interviewed a gypsy family, and that was the poorest family that you could find there. Because not everybody from that village lived like that. But hey ... this is what sells ... doesn't it?

  • I know some Romanians, nice ppl, down to earth and easy to get along with.

  • WHY ON EARTH DID YOU MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT A GYPSY FAMILY? OF COURSE THEY ARE POOR! THE DON'T WORK, THEY ONLY STEAL! TRY FINDING A ROMANIAN FAMILY NEXT TIME, NOT A GYPSY MINORITY FAMILY, WICH IS OBVIOUSLY THE POOREST IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY BECAUSE THEY NEVER WORKED...

  • @Olengher I guess once you've built your factories, damns and channeled the rivers, such tasks are done and doesnt need to be expanded on. Or at least not at a rate that would solve unemployment. It's a challenge for all European countries the unemployment, theres no obvious solutions, as you say service based enterprises can only go so far.

  • @BVargas78 yes, lower than european average but only in cities.Countryside it's disaster, they are all unemployed. Many people in the cities left too, and peasants can't replace them.We have plenty of peasants but not enough back breakin work to give them.Communist type projects with buildin damns, factories, channeling rivers were more suited for this type of workforce.Services can't hire them. How many taxis can one country have?

  • Journalism looks like a very demanding proffession.Highly trained specialists. Now how r u going to get an almost analphabet gipsy who does subsitence agriculture to pay social protection? If you school that gipsy a bit he'll become most probably a taxi driver or journalist.

  • The article says theres problems maintaining a home based workforce. Does that mean unemployment there is low?

  • No I dont think they are savages, they are just normal ppl.

"Easy to get along" = Easy to be friends with.

  • I can make the same article in any country in this world. I look for the poorest neighborhood populated with gypsys an make an article as this is the situation in the whole country.

  • Do you think Romanians are savages? why are you saying that it is easy to get along with?

  • I haven't seen ONE positive article about my country on your agency.. That's why I give you one star rating and my full DISRESPECT!
