  • Search 'Rainey vs Schwantz'.

There are some awesome videos of these 2 champions going head to head like Rossi and Stoner did in 2008 at Laguna Seca. What a race that was!

  • Look at my other videos....I have Rainey vs Schwantz :)

Rainey was so consistent and line perfect, Schwantz was like a bucking bronco half the time but man did he have some balls/determination.

I downloaded the entire 1989 Suzuka race which was probably the best Schwantz/Rainey duel ever....Schwantz done the same to Gardner the previous year.

  • 100% on the money, phailanaids. The old 500cc bikes were FAR MORE DIFFICULT than todays bikes. Old 2-strokes can flip a man on his head faster than he can blink his eyes. No joke.

Scary freaking bikes for heroes and the insane. Big respect for 80s&90's riders.

I recall Alex Barros being the only guy on a 500cc bike to be able to get close to the 4-strokes. Then he beat Rossi as soon as they gave him the same 4-stroke Honda. He said, "I couldn't believe how EASY IT IS TO RIDE THE 4-STROKE"

  • Saw this race live on TV. Doohan is awesome

  • traction control has ruined it a bit...pity i'm to young and missed these 2 banger gp days!

  • @schwantz3434 that is almost all aerodynamics. Sheene's bike was lighter and made probably 160-170hp (not to mention, it was pre-powervlave, pre big bang) the 990s made 220ish. But Sheene's bike was shaped like a bar of soap

  • @MetricHotrodsdotcom you got me thinking.......in 1976 barry sheenes suzuki rg 500 bike did 176mph.....in 2006 the honda 990 gp bike did 206mph......thats a 1mph per year increase in 30 years.......

  • Doohans 500cc two stroke made 205hp in 1999. Stoners 800cc Honda championship winning bike in 2011 made 207. am i the only one who realizes we are going BACKWARDS?

  • in 2002 when they ran the 500s and 990s together, John Hopkins on the redbull yamaha routinely ran the fastest 2-stroke laps, which was only good enough for about 9th-12th place on the grid that year. believe the honda conspiracy, because it definately exists.

  • @phailandaids Schwantz was handed the championship due to ONE mistake by Rainey.

  • @ghosttroop Honda is the one who wants 2 strokes dead

  • When bikes had no electronics, where is was best rider vs best rider, where it was all about speed, power, concerntration and skill, where the 500cc 2 Stroke demanded respect. Long live the 500cc 2 Stroke. Only ridden by the best

  • Straight from Valentino Rossis book.

The demise of 500cc helped weed out many problems, but also a fair dose of excitement. Because the simple truth is that no bike in the world can match a two-stroke 500cc.

He also thinks 75 percent is the highest top riders could get from the bikes potential.
