  • make sure you buy liquid benadryl it absorbs faster

  • EPI-PEN?????????

  • I don't see how it's possible that it stops it from getting worse.

When I first started having a reaction, I took 2 benadryl tablets and I still ended up w/ my breathing shutting down.

The reaction was getting worse even 45 minutes after I took the benadryl. I mean, going from breathing to not breathing is IMO one definition of getting worse.

  • But i have learnt as a med student that the Class I intervention drug for any kind of an anaphylactic reaction is EPINEPHRINE.

  • I take Wali-tin and didn't get drowsy at all.

  • I've had a skin test and take 2 allergy shots a week, every week.

It happened even though I'm getting shots. The doctor said the irritant was either a newly developed allergy or one they haven't developed for skin testing.

My allergist is a local "sensation." The doctor everyone goes to when they have allergies. That's not why I go to him, somebody recommended him when I was new to this city.

He raved about Dr. Bernstein so much I decided it wouldn't hurt to try it.

  • See an alery specialist to determin what you are alergic to. This is the most important thing you can do because if you don't know what is causing your reaction you cannot avoid it. Try to get an Eppi Pen. It carries a dose of adrenaline which will reverse the effects of anaphylaxis. You simply jab the pen into your thigh to administer. You should also carry Claratyne or a antihistamine where ever you go with instructions incase you cannot administer yourself. This might one day save U.

  • They never DID find out what was causing my reaction. Eventually that became irrelevant, b/c I stopped breathing, everything went black, and I awoke in the ER with such a bad sore throat I wouldn't be able to swallow w/out pain for 18 hrs.

I do think if I hadn't taken ANY Benadryl, I wouldn't be writing this comment. I can't imagine living through a worse reaction.

  • Benadryl didn't help me at all, unless it stopped me from dying. I took the 2 pills and 15 minutes later my reaction started getting worse anyway.

When I started getting a general rash, even after the Benadryl should have been working, I called 911.

Between the call and their arrival time, I'd progressed to not being able to breathe right. Then my mouth got numb, it felt like my throat was closing and I went unconscious.

I remember nothing after that until I was in the ER.
