Here's how to create and sew a lined zipper pouch completely by hand. In this tutorial you will learn how to create the zipper pouch pattern, put in the zipper and sew it together. You can use the same instructions to make a zipper pouch with a sewing machine.

I actually made this by hand it it took me about an hour and a half and that with stopping at every step to take a bunch of pictures. I think you could realistically make one of these in 30 - 45 minutes depending on how big you want your finished pouch to be. If you are making a change purse you could do it in 15 - 20 minutes.

  • I am a bit challenged when it comes to sewing projects. When putting the lining fabric in place, is it right side down?

    Thank you!

  • @corvettenonna Yes the right side will be on top of the zipper.

  • @ConsciouslyModest I did it...thank you for the wonderful directions...I hope to make many more of these zippered pouches.

  • @corvettenonna I'm so glad to hear it!

  • Thanks! This is a great video for those of us who can't quite stretch to sewing machines x

  • @TheFifi1989 You're welcome :) Let me know if there are any other hand projects you'd like to see!

  • @ConsciouslyModest Okay, thank you! I tried to do it without success--but I was also working with paper as my "fabric". Either way, I don't know if I would have been able to do it. Thanks anyways :)

  • @hermiesrokmysox That is a really good question, I'm going to say it would depend on how big your pouch would be and if you are sewing in a lining or not If your "pouch" is more the size of a hand bag you might be able to maneuver it on your sewing machine. I was going to say no, but I'm thinking of ways that it could work :) It would be easier to do without a lining but I think it is possible even with a lining :)

  • Great video! Very thorough--just what I needed. I do have one question: is there a way to make a zipper pouch with only two cut of pieces of fabric? Meaning, I would simply have a fold as my bottom "seam" rather than actual stitching--it would be like a folded hot dog bun, if that makes sense...
