Merkava is a tank built around the soldier. The first objective is soldier survivability. Great for a small country like Israel but a country like Usa or Russia that can put millions of soldiers in the battlefield if needed can do better.

I build 1/35 scale armor and am currently building a late 1940's Super Sherman or Isherman. I was wondering if anyone could tell me why Israel painted various points of the tank red. Things like guards, pick up points, handles, etc.
I've been unable to find out why this is done. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Not always but when it really has we develop for exactly that tank.
But for example when we wanted to develop the lavi jet fighter the only reason we stopped is no budget
