Some think Father Ralph was a virgin, I don't think he was. He may have dated before joining the seminary or courted as they stated in those days. I'm glad he did not crash his car getting away from the hot blooded Meggie. It's a good thing her dad did not see them kiss.

It was never about 'loving God more'. Ralph, was selfish, greedy, and hungry for power and stature, something he never really admits. Mary knew exactly what he was. When Meggie was a little girl, Ralph was much better for her, he was the loving parent type she needed. Yeah Paddy loved her, but he was too enveloped in his job and his boys, When she grew up, he ended up being nothing but heartbreak. He treated her like a toy, played with her, tossed her away,played with her, tossed her away..etc.
