I just got the "eliminates noise" part: not for the one in the bar but for the one at the other end. what we hear is what SHE hears. strange commercial. you have to replay it in your mind to get the point. very indirect.
and why are they kissing? I suppose it's to say "and suddenly the crowd went silent, as silent as if two of the guys had started kissing and everyone was dumb-founded"... ? not clear.
