Alex stared at her for a moment. "And how did Taylor Lautner enter our conversation? We were talking about Shane Dawson. They're completely two different persons!"
"Exactly my point, Alex." Mary said calmly.
"What point?" Alex asked, annoyed.
"They're two completely different persons. So, why are you treating Shane like he's done the things Taylor did to you?" Mary said with a triumphant smile. "Shane is not Taylor."
Alex just stared at the floor. "I'm tired."
Mary stood up. "Fine. Rest and come down for dinner later."
"I won't."
"Don't worry. Shane and dad won't be joining us. They're out for a business meeting."
"I'm not worried about being with him on the same table."
"I know. But you're too afraid to have a friendship with guys." Mary hugged Alex. "If you need me, I'm just behind the right wall of your room." And then left.
It was a bright morning the next day and Mary, Mr. Henderson and Shane were eating their breakfast at the dining room. Alex came downstairs with a badminton racket.
"Good Morning." She greeted as she kissed Mary and her father.
No matter how long they've been together, Mr. Henderson couldn't see the difference between the twins. "Are you Mary or Alex?"
"Dad, I'm Mary." Alex said.
"Oh. I'm happy that Alex is now eating breakfast with Shane and I." He looked over at Mary. "How about you, Mary?" He asked Alex.
Shane was staring, trying his best not to chuckle, with his hands on his mouth.
Mary squeezed his father's hand. "Dad, don't fall for Alex' trick. I'm Mary and she's Alex. Always remember that Alex never lets her hair down."
Mr. Henderson just chuckled as Alex sat beside Mary. "Alex, don't play this game again. It's a shame that Shane discovered that I still can't recognize who's who between the two of you."
Shane chuckled and reassured Mr. Henderson. "No, it's fine sir."
"Believe me, it's really not that easy." Mr. Henderson shrugged as he sliced his bread. Then looked over at Shane. "How about you? Can you tell the difference between them?"
"Well..." Shane intended to leave his answer hanging but Mr. David Henderson was obviously waiting for an answer. "It's really hard but I can say that Mary is gentle and graceful."
David chuckled. "Does that mean that my Lexie is harsh and hard?"
Alex choked.
Shane was sweating. "No. What I meant was..." Alex was glaring at him and he was doing the same thing to her. "...different." He looked down and smiled as he looked up. "There. That was the perfect word. She's unique."
Alex was staring at him, unbelieving what he just said.
Shane looked at her then chewed on his food. Then the phone rang and Mary stood up to get it from the living room. "Dad, it's for you." David stood up and followed Mary.
Alex and Shane were alone. Shane scooted beside Alex's seat. "You owe me big time." He said.
"Huh?" Alex said confused.
"I said you were unique so your father won't find out your evilness on me."
"I don't owe you." Alex said proudly.
"How come?" Shane whined.
"You chose to say it. It was your decision." she said bluntly. "Now, back off. I have to finish my food and rush to a badminton game with Nick."
Then Mary and David came back. "So you two are getting along?" David asked as they sat down. But Shane was still beside Alex.
"Absolutely." Shane stated as Alex ignored him. It was time for a payback, Shane thought. "In fact, Alex invited Mary and I to a badminton match with Nick."
Alex's head suddenly turned from her plate to Shane, and she mouthed-What?-
Shane ignored her and looked at Mary."So, Mary...are you on?"
"I haven't played badminton for months. I guess it's worth a try."
Alex was panicking. "Shane, don't you have to attend a business meeting with dad and his associates?"
David interrupted. "None for the whole week. The phone call I received said that I'm going out of town today." He stood up. "So..you children enjoy your week without me." He hugged both girls and shook Shane's hand and walked away then turned to them again. "Alex, don't you dare use the Mustang without my permission..again." And he left.
Shane stood up. "So..I'll be dressing for the big match." And he walked upstairs.
Mary did the same. "Alex, will Nick pick us up?"
"Yeah. He was supposed to pick me up."
"Oh. Can't Shane and I join you in the car?"
"Mary! It's our 'best friends time'" Alex whined.
"But Shane said you invited us over."
"I never did. He's one hell of a liar."
"I'm not." Shane said at the doorway. "But I'm ready." He said excitedly.
"Same here." Mary exclaimed.
"I can drive my own car with you, Mary." Shane suggested.
"I guess your problem's solved." She said to Alex.
"Fine. You two can go." She stood up as Shane and Mary exchanged grins to each other behind her.
