Jeremy Brett, perfect as Holmes and when he died the character died as well. It would be an insult to the people who have actually read the books to make someone else Holmes. And especially someone not fit AT ALL for the part, for example Mr. Robert Downey Jr. aka "Iron Man"... really?! I think Hollywood has finally lost all sense of direction. The 2010 movie sucked.

Jeremy Brett is the only one who can ever play Holmes! No one can ever be Holmes again after such a brilliant an complex interpretation. This is how Conan Doyle intended the chrarcter to be imagined. This is indeed hwo i imagined him before I ever saw the Granada series.

I haven't seen the movies yet, but Benedict Cumberbatch does an incredibly good job as Holmes in the modern setting. He keeps all the quirkiness of the character, and doesn't succumb to any kind of hollywood-style cliches. I completely love Jeremy Brett as Holmes, but I love Benedict as much.

It’s one thing Sir to be open mind and quite another to be positively . . . vacuous. There are no actors with the same acting. Jeremy Brett is indeed one of the best actors to play Sherlock Holmes, but let's have an open mind towards Robert Downey Jr.'s acting. He has his own interpretation of Sherlock Holmes so just keep an open mind... :D

Downey jr is.. different..(?). I think Benedict cumberbatch is one of the best Holmes ever played after Jeremy brett and basil rathbone :B
