Sorry! I was away for the weekend.

Apparently, the Super Sonic video for Sonic Riders (and its sequel--but I'll get to that later) have been very popular, and a new frequently asked question has popped up as of late: How do you unlock Super Sonic? This video is part of a series that will show the Gold rank for every mission in the game.

Dark Desert is the Babylon counterpart for Sand Ruins. This is apparently a favorite for many people, and indeed, I find it to be a pretty cool place. Of course, if this game were to have online play, I'd be seeing Dark Desert up the wahoo and I'd get sick of it in a hurry, just like with Maka Wuhu.

Cream sets out to perform lots of tricks in Mission 1:
C - 0 pts
B - 1 pt
A - 2 pts
AA - 4 pts
S - 6 pts
SS - 8 pts
X - 10 pts
This one is particularly difficult and, in my opinion, the hardest trick mission in the game. You're told to get 14 points, but you need 28 points for the Gold rank. Normally, this is no big deal, but Dark Desert consists of one huge jump and 6 tiny jumps, in two sets of three jumps in rapid succession. You barely have enough time to get ready for the next jump after landing from the previous one. In jumps like these, chances are you'll either get a B-grade or an AA-grade (unless, of course, you whiff and get a C-grade). Since the most you can get from the first jump is 10 points, and AA-grades are worth 4 points, You'll need to successfully land an AA trick from at least 5 out of 6 of those jumps. Unless, of course, there's a jump somewhere I missed--let me know, because this is otherwise disproportionately difficult.

Mission 2's junk pieces are located as follows:
1. From the start, don't turn left or right. Do a trick ranked SS or X and you'll find this piece on the descent.
2. Follow the trail of Rings on the second jump and do any trick off it.
3. Get between the bombs on the third jump.
4. Do any trick off the fourth jump following the trail of Rings.
5. Before the first hairpin turn right.
6. In plain sight before the technologically advanced chamber.
7. Follow the middle path in the chamber and get on the grind rail.
8. Veer right upon getting off the rail and aim for the nearest curved corner of the path.
9. Get on the grind rail to the right after the teleporter.
10. Leap to the second rail with good timing.
11. On the buildingtop after the set of rails.
12. Aim for the second dash panel from the left to hit this last piece without any effort.

Mission 3, of course, is a time mission. You're given 1 minute 10 seconds (58 seconds for the Gold) to finish a lap as Knuckles. Good thing too, because there are a bunch of glowing stone cubes placed all over.Their purpose is, of course, to allow you to dash more, so if you're having problems in this mission, follow the route I took (including the shortcut through the building near the end) and be sure to dash whenever you're not cornering.

Mission 4 requires you to pass through Air Ride hoops. Get through 7 to pass or through all 15 for the Gold rank. Again, these hoops are slightly misaligned, so you'll have to steer Tails in midair. Apparently, many of you have trouble with this; I wouldn't be able to give proper advice until I see someone fumbling. I can say that this one can give problems since it's a pretty cluttered course and it's easy to hit things in the air.

Mission 5 is a Ring mission, and indeed, we're back to repeats. Get 50 Rings to pass or 75 Rings for the Gold. Since no Rings appear as Monitors, this is a test of precision steering. For now, there are dash panels to help put Sonic in the correct direction for most of these Rings, so it shouldn't be too hard. Later missions, as you'll see, will have no such guiding forces, and they'll become very tricky very fast.

  • @MrMariosonicman It's a shame, because it seems like a cool stage. I wouldn't know, since I don't have the game. And I don't frequently go online.
