He used to say hello to me at the morning workouts at SA when I was a little girl standing at the rail of the grandstand. I miss him still and racing has never been the same for me. Of course, we always will have him with the internet...

Too bad i never had a chance to meet him, even though im related to him, somehow... he is the only well-known person in our family tree. save for a few politicians who didnt mean much to me.

I was so excited the first time I meant Billy Shoemaker. I guess I should of just said that a Jockey friend of mine introduced him to me and we both said HI! I know that may not seem like much to those reading this commnent but to me it meant the WORLD!!

Just to clarify. My father wrote the message above. His name is Tom Chapman. Shoemaker and him went way back. Check out my documentary about the dangers of horse racing entitled HORSE RACING ACCIDENT FILM.

I used to ride with Bill Shoemaker and for him once he hung up his tack and became a jockey. He was one of the classiest people I've ever met. He was a gentleman when not on a horse and a gentle warrior on one.
He loved pulling practical jokes in the jockey's quarters. One of his favorite things to do was to stirr his coffee with a metal spoon and walk up next to you and touch you on the neck or cheek. The first time he did it to me I just about jumped out of my boots.
I really miss him.
