From the 2000 New Orleans premiere production of William Finn's musical semi-autobiography. Directed by Derek Franklin, sets by Bill Walker, costumes by Debby Simeon, choreography by Karen Hebert, sound design by Cliff Stromayer. Produced by Sonny Borey for Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre.
Video by Bill Blanke.
In this scene, Marvin (Jimmy Murphy) sits with his lover Whizzer (Vatican Lokey) in his hospital room, trying to make sense of the mysterious disease (AIDS) that is slowly killing him. Dr. Charlotte (Jenny Richardson) and her lover, kosher caterer Cordelia (Amy Alvarez) drop in for a visit as the quartet realize that they are all they have for now.

  • Wow... the accordion is a cool addition. I'm curious-- were the tempo interpretations from the M.D. or the actors? Not complaining... just curious. :)

  • @filmjedi Our M.D. was really good about the tempos for the show, but I think this particular number was a combination of both direction & actor interp. It was our favorite song to do as a group.

  • This is beautiful. The vocal unity, especially when such liberties are taken with the tempo, is absolutely breathtaking.

  • This version a little too saccharine for my liking and very iberal with the tempo, but the actors are obviously very talented.
