Mental Health First Aid is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves. A mental health crisis can take many forms including an anxiety attack, acute stress reaction, overdose, distressed psychotic state, or feeling suicidal.
Most of us know what to do if we injure our selves or have chest pain, but very few of us know what to do if the problem is psychological. The first step in mental first aid is to recognize when someone is suffering.
From the Tonic TV series screening on ABC - supported by NPS.
