I love the new colours of the 071 locos - this one almost looks new even though they were introduced by CIE in the 1970s. When I was young the 071s were used exclusively on inter-city trains and were the mainstay on the Enterprise Dublin-Belfast service. At that time there were 001s, 121s, 141s and 181s working the other passenger and freight services. These days, with ALL the other classes now a thing of the past, the 071 is the only locomotive class still around from the diesel heyday. And what a wonderful beast it is. Here 088 pulls away from the Navan branch at Drogheda heading towards Dublin with a fully-laden Tara Mines train.
