This video clip of Gary Stewart was taped in a television studio in Hazard, Kentucky. It is from the Appalshop Archive's "Early Headwaters Television collection, 1980-1984," which has been preserved and transferred from obsolete videotape.

Headwaters Television began production in 1980 as a weekly television series to bring programs about local affairs and regional artists to southeastern Kentucky. During its first five years Headwaters producers taped many programs in the studios of WKYH-TV in Hazard, which also broadcast the series. In later years Headwaters delivered programs and Appalshop documentaries to state and national audiences through PBS stations.

The name of this song is "Silver Cloud",and was written in a graveyard outside of Dallas in the middle of the night. It was Gary's wife Lou's favorite song, and Gary never got to record it because of record label politics."So Jesus,make up my dying bed, cause I've been stung,by the kiss of death."Then he goes on to tell Lou,"I'll be waitin' for you,sittin' on top of a silver cloud".This is cool and rare version,but you should have heard it in the graveyard! I realize that it probably can't happen, because of among other things "record label politics", but a great tribute to Gary, besides being inducted into the CMA and HTMA ; ) Halls of Fame, man this song would fit perfectly into an episode of "Justified".
