RIP Don. Brian Williams said in this era of specialists, Wittman was incredibly versatile in the number of sports he could cover. We will never see another Don Wittman. He will be missed, not only on Saturday nights but when the olympics come calling again this summer.

He was perhaps one of the best announcers ever in my opinion. I remember hearing him do the first game of "hockey night in Canada" games and he was just phenomenal

@metroretrokicks Absolutely,& Don Wittman was always impartial too.If only he lived to see the return of the Winnipeg Jets last year.

I loved listening to the voice of the legendary great, Don Wittman on CBC for CFL games and Hockey Night in Canada where he primarily covered western conference games. Truly the best there ever was in my books!

Curt Gowdy, Pat Summerall, Al Michaels, Dick Enberg... Don Wittman: The greatest pro football play-by-play men of all time. Period.

It was the Western Express actually, aka Winsday!

don whitman used to do the Lotto 6/49 draws in the 80's.

It's not going to be the same watching curling and not hearing his voice

Some of the greatest sports moments in my lifetime, Ridgway kicking the winner in '89, Donovan Bailey running 9.84, and Sandra Schmirler winning the gold in 1998, that humble man from Herbert was the voice of them all. I just heard Ron MacLean say it's only fitting he died on a game day.
A wrote an obituary for Don that I'll run on my news tomorrow. I'll also post it on Swift Current Online (my station's web portal) that same morning.

I have one more video I am currently uploading from Don's retirement on January 8, 2008. Take a look at the Winnipeg Free Press and Winnipeg Sun websites if you need more details.
