U2 included "The Ballad of Springhill" in the playlist for their Joshua Tree Tour in 1987. The song written by Peggy Seeger was in memory of the coal mining disaster in Springhill, Nova Scotia in 1958. Now, the town of Springhill has invited U2 to stop and see the town the day after their July 30 concert at Magnetic Hill, New Brunswick. They would be given the key to the town and be named honourary Springhill residents. Townspeople are very hopeful the band will come.
