This is a short slideshow i put together of my 55 gasser project. I am still fairly young at 28 but have been into cars since grade school. At 12 i bought a 30 model a 2 tudor sdn and sold it because it was just to far gone, at 14 i bought my 55 2 door post. After highschhol and my first son was born the 55 left when i was 20 years old. Well in april of 2008 2 weeks before my second son was born i noticed the prices of the 55's going up and up and the number of decent unhacked cars going down and down so i pounced on this delray on ebay , never saw the car just clicked the buy it now. Anways , the car was falling around the framerails but with todays replacement parts i was not scared. Soooo this is just a little deal to show my progress this far. The wheels are 15x 3.5 fenton gyros up front and 15x11 gyros outback . The rear will be a 69 camaro 12 bolt posi ive had laying around. The front axle is from a 57 chevy half ton with all new king pins and disc brake kit from speedway along with new springs and hangers utilizing the stock frame. We cut the floors completely out and replaced with a one piece pan , while we were at it we replaced the rockers and some small quarter patch panels as well is deleted the original shock mount location and fabbed up a nice cover and will be using a bar in between the frame rails. The trunk floor was in excellent shape so no need for and replacement there. The front sheet metal was swapped out for a fiberglass nose i picked up locally . The hood scoop on it will be leaving . I radiused the wheel wells and still need to put the roll to them. My plans this summer are to iron out the body work . Hinge the nose and try to get a coat or 2 of either satin black or a gloss black . Have not decided. The interior will be a slight variation of the stock delray interior and i will be keeping the bench seat instead of buckets. Motor will be a supercharged big block chevy. I still have a long way to go but am on a very tight budget with my young family. But i know what i want and i dont care how long it takes me to get there. It will be done right the first time the way i want it and i will not waiver. So there it is . Ohh the song is " Run Through The Jungle" By Creedence Clearwater Revival , The reason i chose the song is i am considering having the full lettering done just like the old cars in the day and if i choose a name for the car it will be just that, " Run Through The Jungle" and i will pay tribute across the trunk lid to the Vets with the pow mia badge, I figured it all kind of ties together , the era of the car , the name of the song , Vietnam and the Vets , just seems to go together.

  • @Mr1963chevy Thank you sir very much for the compliment . I have not had much time to work on the 55 this year , i had to build a garage so i would have a place to work on it and that took any funds i had saved up to finish the car out . oh well . One of these days , the time and the money will come one of these days , until then she is sitting high and dry in a new garage.

  • Thanks again guys. Im still saving up the money for a blower and to button up the 396 , Hoping to have it 98% finished by the end of summer. It will be a streetable but for special occasions i picked up a survivor 4 door 55 to be used as a tow car to take her to the dragstrip , it oughta be a pretty neat sight to see rolling down the highway.

  • Well that scratchin and saving for pennies finally worked out . I have the 6/71 set up for the 396

  • this coming from a strictly no chevy guy, i think i'd drive that bow tie when finish lol. you are going to throw a ford engine in that right j/k good work though
