The way in which Bateman says "Another Martini, Paul?" coupled with the facial expression clearly says "You're going to get fucking destroyed later on". Love it.

After watching the movie again; I've noticed what you're trying to saying.
But to my opinion the "fake" acting is more due to the fact that he is acting as an insane person. Thus making the acting look fake fits what a insane person would do/act like in real life.

@AlfieWilRus Wow, looks like someone didn't pay attention in drama class, as an amateur actor I can say 100% that this movie (Especially Christian Bale's) performance in this movie was incredible. Watch the Axe scene where he kills Paul. Bale just embraces a psychopath flawlessly with an exquisit sick humor to it. Thats what made this film.
